Peter's series of Digital Photography courses are conducted from his studio at the J Shed.

 

AN INTRODUCTION TO DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY

LEVEL 1 BEGINNERS COURSE [8 weeks / 2.5 hours per week]

A short course introducing you to the world of digital photography. Ideal for beginners and also those with little camera experience.

Students will learn how to use their digital camera and get to know the basics of the photographic medium. You will be introduced to photographic theory, a short history of photography, types of cameras and lenses, camera basics, demystifying your digital camera and its settings.

The course will cover camera equipment and an introduction to the use of the computer and printer. It’s basic aim is to give you the skills to improve your ways of seeing and using your camera. These techniques can be applied to your own artistic expression or documentation of your own artworks.

Students will need a digital camera (and laptop however laptop is desirable but not essential to do the course).

 

CREATIVE DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY LEVEL 2

LEVEL 2 SOME BASIC EXPERIENCE [6 weeks / 2.5 hours per week]

This course is ideal for those who want to further explore digital photography as an art form. Digital photography has had a huge impact on the medium of photography over the last few years. It is changing the way photography has been done for more than a century. These exciting changes in technology will be explored in this course. It will cover the use of digital photography as a tool for documentation, as an expressive medium in its own right and as a way to use the photographic medium to aid the development of your own art works.

This is a practical course exploring different themes and techniques to express artistic ideas. You will further explore photographic theory, types of cameras and lenses, demystifying your digital camera and its settings so you can use manual over ride with confidence, ISOs, file size, composition and the importance of light. You will be shown the basic skills needed to use the computer and printer to enhance and save your images. Through carefully structured assignments you will learn to develop the photographer’s eye. You will be encouraged to create and capture exciting images to feed into your artworks.

The course is project based with ongoing feedback and guided photo excursions in Fremantle and its surrounds. These location shoots will encourage creative exploration of the themes of A Sense of Place and Cityscapes. It is ideal for those with some camera experience in traditional photography who want to learn the basics of the new digital technology and those with some digital camera experience.

Students will need a digital camera preferably SLR digital (and laptop however laptop is desirable but not essential to do the course).

 

INDIVIDUAL TUITION IN PHOTOGRAPHY

Catering for students who want an individually tailored series of 2 hour workshops with the tutor. Time by appointment.
